xwmconfig doesnt work

Im having a little problem with xwmconfig. Whenever i login from gdm, it always load KDE instead of whatever i selected in xwmconfig. I checked rc.4 script and it contains the Gnome-session that i chose. Yet it still load KDE. I suppose a different script runs at graphical login? Since whenever im at runlevel 3 and use startx, I get what i wanted. Im still on my learning stage so help would be greatly appreciated.

as i recall from the gdm screen, there is a menu to select your window manager.

the xwmconfig on my slackware 10.0 doesn't work... i'm not even sure if i have it cuz i can't call it from the shell...

during installation, i chose kde as default... now, i wanted to set fluxbox as default...

bash-2.05b# xwmconfig
bash: xwmconfig: command not found

so i run "pkgtool" and go into the window manager configuration part... i select fluxbox in there and hit okay... i get no errors or anything, but upon exit, kde still gets loaded instead of fluxbox (for regular users)...

do anyone of you guys know what the deal is with xwmconfig acting-up???

any way to make it work right???

=)

okay, i created i link to /usr/bin/X11/xwmconfig at /usr/bin/xwmconfig...

that puts xwmconfig in the path again, and makes it run with the simple "xwmconfig" command...

however, i notice now that xwmconfig is only adjusting the /root/.xinitrc file...

i'd think that xwmconfig should be making the adjustment for everyone instead, right???

so anyways /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc is a link to one of the window manager entries in /etc/X11/xinit/ and i've managed to set the default manager by pointing the link accordingly... for example, for fluxbox:

ln -sf /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.fluxbox /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

that seems to make fluxbox the default manager for my users... keep in mind i'm talking about doing "startx" from runlevel 3... this isn't about selecting the wm from kdm or gdm...

i'm still dumbstuck as to why xwmconfig seems to be malfunctioning...

could this perhaps have something to do with the switch to "X.org"???

Has nothing to do with the switch to xorg. My Slackware 10 box is working just like all of my other boxes in regards to window managers. RingWraith is right. From GDM, you can selesct any Window manager/ Desktop Environment that you like.

okay i hadn't noticed that regular users could run "xwmconfig" and choose what window manager they want to use for themselves... xwmconfig (when run by a regular user) will generate an ".xinitrc" file in the user's home directory... so i guess adjustments to the /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc link are intended only until the regular user choses something else by running "xwmconfig" on their own... makes sense, i guess...
