xscreensaver help

I just upgraded to xscreen saver 5.14 from the default slackware 5.12 because I was having some small issues....

I used the xscreensaver slackbuild and worked just fine. After the upgrade I relaunched xcsreensaver and got the following message:

The xscreensaver daemon did not start up properly.
Please check your $PATH and permissions.

I am not sure whats going on since is not leaving a trace in the logs behind.

Any ideas?

TIA!
