After changelog update - Xscreensaver daemon 4.21 - will not start
I just upgraded to xscreensaver 4.21. When I try and start the daemon, it says the daemon failed to start properly, and to check my $PATH and permissions. When I run echo $PATH, I get this:
/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games:/opt/www/htdig/bin:/usr/lib/java/bin:/usr/lib/java/jre/bin:/opt/kde/bin:/usr/lib/qt/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin:.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? How can I fix this?

Could you post the output with :
ls -l /usr/X11R6/bin/xscreensaver

As soon as I get back to it, I will. I have tried this on two computers, so I think it may be a current problem. I have no problem recompiling. Did no one else have an issue with this?

>Did no one else have an issue with this?<
I had to chown /usr/X11R6/bin/xscreensaver from root.shadow to root.bin to get xscreensaver 4.21 to work. And I threw in a small script into /home/file/.kde/Autostart to get xscreensaver to start automatically with KDE.
Might not be the best solution, but it works, so I'm not overly concerned...

Could you please tell me what that means? What difference does it make whether it is owned by root.shadow or root.bin? How do I just add something to my path?

This worked. Did everyone have this issue that upgraded from 4.19 to 4.21?

I've it too, I guess it's a problem with the current package.
