xsane problem after upgrade to 14.2
Hi all,
So I upgraded one of my systems to 14.2. Everything seemed to go fine except a problem with NVIDIA and with xsane. The NVIDIA problem was solved by patching the kernel as described here. This is a slackware64 system with multilib installed. I'm still struggling with the scanner problem. The device is a Brother MFC-7420 connected by USB. The scanner worked fine under 14.1 and I am a member of the scanner group. When trying as my regular user neither scanimage -L nor xsane find the scanner. sane-find-scanner reports permission errors. When trying these as root, there is again no result from scanimage or xsane, but sane-find-scanner does find the scanner/printer. Any help would be much appreciated. Brian |
You had a problem previously on 14.1; http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ng-4175533093/; could something similar be the cause of the problem?
EDIT: Is your user also in group lp? "lp", is required for SANE to deal with multifunctional printer/scanners-see Changes&Hints. |
Thanks for the reply, but the user is a member of lp and the multilib versions are installed.

Hi Brian,
Did you get it to work? I had similar problems with our scanner at work (Epson V330), also USB, after upgrading to 14.2. I recompiled all the stuff I needed but I also found that in the /etc/udev/rules.d/80-libsane.rules my scanner was commented out. After removing the # the scanner was found. Could it be that your scanner needs to be made visible by such means? Rob |
Thanks for the reply. I noticed that brother was no longer listed in sane's dll.conf. I must have overwritten it during the upgrade.
