xorg segfaults with nvidia driver after upgrade to 13.1

Here is the synopsis:

Upgraded from 13.0 to 13.1 following the instructions.

Downloaded latest nvidia package (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.16-pkg1.run) for my geForce4 MX 4000. Compiled and installed new module (old one was 96.43.13).

Xorg fails to start with this:

The "nv" driver works. Any clues?

It might be a bug in the driver. Did you try another version? In the Nvidia Linux Forum the give links to the beta versions, too. Maybe there is one which fixes this issue.

You need to use 'vga = normal' in lilo.conf. It's works for me with the latest (96.43.17) driver from ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/

Many thanks--now working using vga=normal in lilo and the 96.43.17 driver.

I had tried an earlier version (14) and it didn't work either. I thought 16 was the latest--I didn't see how to get to 17 anywhere, so thanks for the link.

I'm operational again.
