xmms eject button doesn't
 

I finally got my sound working in slackware 9.0. (always helps to use the right driver :D )

Then, somehow, I was able to play a cd (eric clapton - from the cradle) with xmms. It didn't work the first time. Then I removed the cd and mounted a data cd. Then umounted the data cd. Then ran xmms again and it allowed me to play the audio cd.

Anyway, I can eject the cd with the button on the cd drive, but the eject button on xmms opens a dialog asking what file/track I want to play.

This is the xmms that came with slack 9, XMMS 1.2.7.
Is that a bug? Do I need to do some config for the eject button? I wouldn't think so. It's a standard button next to the fast forward button.

That is the intended purpose of the "eject" button. XMMS is not solely a CD player, it's mostly used for MP3 and OGG audio files.

So, the eject button is for launching music. Not for ejecting CD's.

Afterall, I got used to using the Start button to Stop Windows. ;)

XMMS uses a similar (maybe even exactly) interface as WinAmp. Traditionally that has always been the function of the "eject" button because XMMS/WinAmp is primarily used to play MP3s.

Maybe you used a different MP3 player on Windows... that's why you're unfamiliar with the inteface.

P/S: Get some skins for your XMMS... make it look nicer!

That's a nice cd. Clapton handles the guitar beutifully here, as usuall. Great selection!!!

Guess I should get with the program. Although the old 56K limitation holds me back.

Yep, eric clapton did a fine job on that CD. I'm sorta from the 'old school'. I like to listen to people with musical talent. I don't like a lot of the new stuff where the 'musicians' bang on their instruments and scream about whatever it is that they think they are protesting, or whatever. Actually, maybe the new 'music' isn't about protesting, maybe it's just about expressing the general chaos that has imbued itself into our society.

Yeah! Definitely old school is better... Clapton, The Beatles, Bob Marley, B.B. King. ... If you for some reason decide to rip or backup your cds to your computer, go with ogg vorbis; it has better compresion and sound quality than mp3. The only drawback is that vorbis is still not very well know around, but then again mp3 started the same way. I remember the days before napster came out, I would have to search countless of mp3 website to even find links that actually worked. Now is so easy to find and dowload music!
