xine high CPU usage
I'm running Slackware-current with dropline gnome. I recently upgraded to the 2.6.7 kernel, and I'm having a small problem.
I installed the proprietary ATI drivers (for my 9200), recompiling and installing the kernel module. When I play movies (from file or DVD) with xine or anything else, CPU usage is over 50%. With the 2.4.25 kernel I had before, the video overlay was working much better, and CPU usage was much lower. It's bad enough that if I fast forward, xine tells me it thinks my system is too slow because it's dropping too many frames. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Athlon XP 2000+, 1 GB RAM ATI Raedon 9200 128 MB. Video overlay is on, the fglrx module is working--I get over 1500 fps with glxgears. I'm using the xv driver for xine. xshm is the only other driver that works, and it's slower. I've re-installed the xv packages from slackware-current with no effect. Thanks |
On a side point - have you considered downgrading back to the 2.4 series or is there a specific reason you are using the 2.6 series? :) (I'm sorry, I can't help you with your actual problem, but downgrading back to 2.4 may mean a more stable and faster usage)
