Xine+DVD playback problem using slackware10

Hello, I recently upgraded from slack9.1 to 10. So far everything has been great but i just recently popped in a dvd, fired up xine and got this error:

libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
libdvdread: Could not open input: Permission denied
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading
libdvdnav: vm: faild to open/read the DVD
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 1-rc4a from http://xine.sf.net
libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
libdvdread: Could not open input: Permission denied
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading
libdvdnav: vm: faild to open/read the DVD

and

"(/dev/dvd)"

My dvdrom drive is mounted as /dev/cdrom to /mnt/cdrom It mounts fine and i can browse files, it just doesn't want to playback dvd movies.

Any thoughts? Need more info, just ask

oh btw. I looked through my /dev but did not find a /dvd, is that bad?? i have /dev/cdrom and a cdrw as /dev/hdd

Use the following links and download and install libdvdread and libdvdcss. Once they are installed run (as a user) xine-check. It will tell you if there is anything else you need. If all is well run xine and try the dvd again. You should also check the settings on xine, xine is set for region 1 dvds by default so you may need to change this, I did.

xine-check told me my issues. My user doesn't have r/w permissions on the devices needed. I started xine as su and it played no problem.

as root do:

chmod a+wrx /dev/hdc

I don't know if the lack of /dev/dvd is a problem but to create it type (again as root):

ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd
