xhost permissions... (acpid?)

I'm sorry about the vague title, but i have an idea how to fix the behaviour, but I'm asking if it's the right way to do it.

Anyway, I'm up and running with Slackware 10.2 on an IBM laptop. I've got ibm-acpi installed, monitoring the hotkey presses, such as FN + F3 will turn off the screen. Basically, acpid will monitor for the keypress and execute the command: `xset dpms force off' which should turn off the screen. Well, it does turn off the screen if you issue the command in a terminal (as the user).

However, it will not work when I press the hotkey. The only way I can get it to work is to issue the command `xhost +' at the terminal, which then allows all and sundry to access my display. So, I guess what I have to do is to figure out how to get acpid to run the command as my username?

Or is there a better way to 'do' xhost + ?

Thanks in advance.

Do you load the ibm-acpi driver with the experimental=1 option? Like this:
Code:
/sbin/modprobe ibm_acpi experimental=1 hotkey=enable,0xffff
Check the archives (or ask) at the Linux-Thinkpad mailing list:

Cheers, Leon.

I've compiled ibm_acpi support into the kernel and so I just enable all hotkeys in the rc.local startup script.
