Xfce...strange key repeat behavior...but not with root...

in keyboard settings, Xfce, I can NOT adjust my key repeat rate...it repeats, but stays fixed regardless of where I put the slider. When I'm logged in as root, it works as it should.

Don't know if it's related, but I can't get Xfce settings helper to load on my login, i.e. the check box in autostarted apps keeps 'unchecking', however it loads in root login.

This is a needle in my 'mind' anyone? thanks!!

XFCE4 stores its setting under ~/.config/. Are all the permissions OK there?

I'm looking now...wonder where something could be out of whack, exactly?

EDIT: this is strange...that long key repeat delay...
