Because there is a new version of slackware close to release? Or just adding all dependencies will stress a lot in terms of testing?
I'm asking because XFCE brings a lot of features that make my life easier, and really I can't stand the new KDE.

It worked .
It's good because my laptop is "new", have a Ati 5730 and a core i7 and the new kernel and xorg will make my system much more useful.

I'm having problems with Thunar on about mounting volumes, giving me a "Not Authorized" message. On internet searches, I found out that starting Xfce from kdm gives me no problem, but I'd like to have it working from "startx" on runlevel 3.

rfernandez,

First, show me the output of "ck-list-sessions" while logged in, then:

How are you starting Xfce? gdm/kdm or from runlevel 3?

If from runlevel 3, is your xinitrc customized, or is it the one that's installed by the Xfce package? If you're not sure, run "xwmconfig" again to make sure you have the one from the xfce package.

Code:
rodrigo@darkstar:~$ ck-list-sessions
Session2:
	unix-user = '1000'
	realname = 'Rodrigo L. Fernandez'
	seat = 'Seat1'
	session-type = ''
	active = TRUE
	x11-display = ':0'
	x11-display-device = '/dev/tty7'
	display-device = '/dev/tty1'
	remote-host-name = ''
	is-local = TRUE
	on-since = '2011-01-09T22:59:11.719905Z'
	login-session-id = ''
I start from 'startx' from runlevel 3 after boot. I've only started Xfce from kdm to test the given solution on the google searches, but I always start from runlevel 3 with 'startx'. It's not a customized .xinitrc, it's the one from xwmconfig, indeed.

Side question, though it's not related to the above: Do we really need avahi? I mean, I haven't started it (forgot to) and Xfce does not complain about this.

Re avahi, it's a dep of gnome-disk-utility - otherwise, nothing really uses it. There's a patch to disable avahi use in gnome-disk-utility, and it *appears* as if upstream gdu intended it to be optional, but until/unless I know for sure, I'm not going to disable it -- I don't want us to have to maintain such a patch.

Re the Thunar issue, I don't know what's going on there. You only have one CK session, and it's showing up as both local and active, so that's good. Apparently Thunar is somehow not being started from the same context as the session manager, but I don't know how that could happen :/

Hey tomorrow, if nothing goes wrong is the day of the final version of XFCE 4.8.
I have a current machine in a old laptop just to try it out. My question is, will Robby Workman have XFCE 4.8 packages?

For all the interested, here in this video is quick demo of the new XFCE.

Eagerly waiting for the new release, I'm stuck with GSB-current, as XFCE in -current can't work for me. Thunar won't respond after 3 mouse clicks. I'm worried that it will delete files instead of moving them, this has happened to me before.

I hope that that particular bug will be correct in the new version.

Just one question, You are trying Rob Workman packages? I think his packages are from XFCE 4.8pre2.

No, just using thunar from -current itself.
