Xfce 4.6.2: After Log Out, No System Tray/Task Bar on Restart
I logged out.
I logged in.
No system tray/task bar.
Looked all over the place, can't find anything.
How in hell do you get that blasted thing back?
This has happened to me at least twice, and this worked the second time:
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to kill your X session, then `rm -rf $HOME/.cache`. Or just mv it if you want to be more safe.
I dunno. Seems like it might have something to do with being logged in for a long time (it was logged in for 53 days). Probably shouldn't but I leave logged in just 'cause I'm the only one using it and I'm lazy, I suppose.
Didn't think of killing X like you did (I just waited for the thing to finally fail after it yammered about the session manager running or some such). I'll try that the next time it happens (and, it's happened a few times so I suspect it will again).
Oh, yeah, forgot -- I did clean out the .cach directory, /autostart, .xscreensaver, .xsession, .kde, .kde.bak and .kdevduchain just on general principles. Didn't hurt (much), restarted X and good to go until the next time.
