XF86Config + init 3
I have an issue with my XF86Config file.
I have just installed Nvidia, and when I was editing XF86config I thought I should make some further changes (just so that I could try them . I have followed a Nvidia guide and incorporated these lines: nvAGP On NoLogo On RenderAccel On ConnectedMonitor CRT IgnoreDisplayDevices DFP,TV When I boot it stops at initialization of X ... (no wonder There's two solutions to this. 1. Boot with a Slack-CD 2. Boot to init 3 How do I make Slack boot in init 3 ??? I have been trying every kind of parameter but I seem to have mixed them all up (seems like every distro has it's own way of handle this kind of situation ... ) __________________ - "Internet is just a fashion craze". Edit /etc/inittab
Make 3 the default run-level. Cheers, Tink |
thanks for your reply tinkster ... but I would like to know how I could boot INTO init 3 because X refuse to initialize ... how do I reboot to init 3
do I write linux 3/init 3/telinit/linux single ...??? |
if your inittab is already set to boot 4, you have to boot with a startup disk to change it back.
If you have it set to 4, i recommend setting it back to 3 and leaving it there... you should not have to reboot linux very often.. so you should just be able to switch ti init 4 at the command line as root. |
At the lilo prompt (if you are using lilo) enter the name of the image i.e. linux then the desired runlevel
boot: Linux 3 You should also be able to get to a console even if x will not come up by using the ctrl+alt+F[1-6] keys. -Matt |
