xDSL/Router Network Connection

Hope someone can help me with the following:

1. I have Slackware 9.0 (upgraded to 2.4.21) on my laptop and would like to connect to my main system running WinXP. Internet connection is made with a Cable modem and then a xDSL/Cable router which is the firewall and DHCP server to provide internet access for the main XP machine and my laptop.

2. My question is whether it is possible for my laptop to connect with my main machine and how to do it using the router? I want to transfer files from my main machine to the laptop.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I use an ADSL modem that is connected to an US Robotics Broadband Router to connect the internet to my little LAN at home. My little router acts as a "firewall" and DHCP server and it has 4 RJ45 ports where I have connected my 3 boxes at home; mine (Red Hat 9.0), and 2 XP boxes. I transfer files between them just by setting samba on my linux box.
