X-Windows + Mouse Crash

Hello,
I dont have every single detail this is the general description
I installed Slackware 12 and Dropline Gnome.

Over some time, I upgraded some stuff (upgrade from the clean install)

So now on to the problem:
X-Windows/X starts automatically (because we decided to automatically do so, instead of manually starting x (Bad idea). Now, when x-windows starts, it states that the mouse is not configured properly, that it needs to be configured. After doing so, it [X] reboots. Then there is the same outcome.
If you click "No" the process stops, and you are stuck without a command-line. Thus we are unable to edit Init. or stop x from running.

So my question would be
Is there a way to stop x from running straight from the system?
or
Is there a way to go into commandline/terminal with x stopped.
or more bluntly
Is there a way to fix it w/o reinstalling Slackware.

Additional information perhaps irrelevant:
When X starts, it blinks several times, with the Dropline Background. The top part is a bit discolored and striped.

Anyways, that is all for now:
Thanks in Advanced

Try rebooting your system and when the LILO prompt appears set "single" as a kernel option. You should boot to the CLI in run level 1.
