X shifts monitor settings

I have been using linux off and on for a few months now. Distros like Libranet and Mepis, that set everything up for you. I have decided to go with Slackware so that I can really learn the OS.

When I installed 9.1, LILO failed to install. I edited lilo.conf and got it working. Now the console displays a much smaller font, like 1024x768 resolution (is this due to framebuffer? I didn't quite get what that is). The only problem with it is the first character on the left is off the screen and I must adjust the monitor settings to see the beginning of each line.

Then when I go to X, the screen is shifted a half inch to the right. I need to autosync the monitor to put the display back in place.

Are these 2 issues or one and the same? The monitor is a Viewsonic VG150.

Thanks for any help.

I have a ViewSonic E70fb-2 and I also had to adjunst the H/V Size/Position. I'm running Slackware 9.1 at 1152x864/75Hz. I had to increase the Horizontal/Vertical size a lot in order to fix my screen.
