X server. shut down. FreeFontPath efcount is 2

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
KDE, Slackware 12.0

the fonts in firefox [menu bar, url line, tab line] are miniscule;

they don't respond to [Firefox]: View > Text Size > Increase C++, or to
plain old manual `C-+', like the fonts on the site pages do;

[KDE] Control Center > Appearance and Themes > Fonts > [All 7 categories
(General:, Fixed width:, etc.) are set to 24, but that doesn't help;

i get this error message every time i close down X:

waiting for X server to shut down FreeFontPath: FPE
"/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" r\ efcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.

whazzup?

I think kde will not change settings for gtk apps like firefox.

In your home directory, create a file called .gtkrc-2.0

insert a line:

gtk-font-name= "Verdana 10"

modify font and size to suit yourself, and save. Restart firefox and your menu bar etc should be as you put in the .gtkrc-2.0

thanks tobyl;

here's my ~/.gtkrc-2.0,
where i changed the font size from 19 to 24;
[24 is the same size i set in KDE > Control Center > Appearances >
Fonts
[as you suggest, "Control Center > Appearances > Gtk Styles and Fonts"
is dead;]
------------------
# This file was written by KDE
# You can edit it in the KDE control center, under "GTK Styles and Fonts"

include "/usr/share/themes/Qt/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"

style "user-font"
{
font_name="Sans Serif 24"
}
widget_class "*" style "user-font"

gtk-theme-name="Qt"
gtk-font-name="Sans Serif 24"

------------------------
when i saved this file and reloaded a firefox window the fonts were
still the same tiny ant tracks [i didn't reload X, or close down
existing firefox windows on other desk tops];

thanks again, imputerate

fellas; guess what; in order for a ~/.gtkrc-2.0 config file to take
effect in Firefox, ALL Firefox windows must be closed; shutting down X
is not necessary; now the fonts are o.k.;/ thanks, imputerate

This is just a harmless bug in the xorg-server, The font path was getting added twice somehow.
