X server hangs

Hi everyone.

X server deadly hangs after exiting - whatever,
after exiting KDE, XFCE, or plainly after
CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE.
CTRL-ALT-DEL is working, which means kernel is ok.
There are NO errors in X server log.

Fresh installation of Slackware 12.
512Mb of memory, ATI Radeon 7000, P4 CPU.
Kernel 2.6 canonical.
DRI enabled or disabled. All screensavers are disabled.

I did not have such problem with Slack 11

Thank you, guys

Sorry, I'm on different machine. I've looked in there already.
Nothing criminal. At least no lines with (EE).

This piece of log appears in Xorg.0.log after attempt to quit X server.
Is this problem DRI - related? My videocard is pretty old: Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]

I'm guessing you are using the "ati" or "radeon" drivers in xorg.conf? If this be the case, upgrade your the ati driver package with the one found in /extra on the install dvd (xf86-video-ati-6.6.3)

That's the driver I'm currently using, as the default one had all sorts of weird bugs for me. I dunno if it will help, but it's worth a try :-) (I'm on an 9600XT, for reference.)

Good luck!

Thank you a lot! Will try it. The funny thing is that after 'X -configure' X server puts the 'ati' as a driver in xorg.cong,
but in hardware-howto driver must be 'radeon'.
