X resolution at initial login screen

I put my slack 10.0 to boot directly to X window, but the screen resolution only looks ok when i choose the Kde or Gnome to work, can someone tell in wich file does x reads the resolutions to the login screen because i changed xorg.config to have only 1024*768 at 16M but my login screen is at 800*600.
