I have just installed Slackware. I have one problem: My default desktop enviroment is KDE. But sometimes, if I want to have the Desktop Enviroment as GNOME or XFCE, then what can I do. (I still want to keep the default Desktop Environment KDE.) Besides, what is the best environment? XFCE, GNOME, or KDE. (I heard that Slackware will no longer have GNOME. Is it because it is not stable?)
if you wanna use runlevel 3 which gives you the command line login, you can type xwmconfig at the prompt, and it will give you a list of the wm's also.
But that would change the default desktop for his user, which if you read his first post in this thread you'd find that doing so would not be what he wants.

by choosing another window manager in kdm or gdm, that also resets the default, does it not? when he logged in, wouldn't it log into "previous", which would be the last chosen desktop? so either way, you'd be resetting the default, unless i'm wrong, in which case i offer my apologies to everyone

In both GDM and KDM, after you select a different then default desktop it asks you want to make that the default or just run it for that session. While you can set the 'launch last used' like option, it is not the norm.
