X.Org Which Version in Slackware 13.1?
Hi,
When I run "Xorg -version"
I get the following:
X.Org X Server 1.7.7
Release Date: 2010-05-04
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Slackware 13.1 Slackware Linux Project...
So that's version 1.7.7 right?
But if I go to X.org's website they say the current X.Org release is X11R7.5.
So what's going on? Thanks.

That is the version of the X.Org xserver binary. However X.Org consists of many more programs than just the X server. See http://www.x.org/wiki/Releases/7.5 for an overview.
Actually, Slackware 13.1's version of X.Org is somewhere between 7.5 and 7.6. The X.Org 7.5 release was in september last year, which would make it pretty stale for inclusion in Slackware 13.1, so a lot of the individual X.Org programs were updated to their latest release.

The open source driver for ati is really getting very good. I have a radeon hd3100 in my laptop and with the open source driver, all desktop effects work. I would say give it a try.

Versions 10.4 and 10.5 of the proprietary driver do work with Xorg in Slackware 13.1.
