X.org server block with NVIDIA driver

Hello,

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card and installed Slackware 13.1.Downloaded lastest driver from nvidia site : http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-d...06-driver.html ,which support my video card, then installed it.Worked, 1440x900 resolution, everything smooth.
Loged out and switched to Windows. After 2 hours switched again to Slackware and the big surprise:
use startx, X.org is loading... loading... loading... I've been waiting for 5 minutes and desktop didn't appear.
Changed driver to vesa and X.org server work with 800x600 resolution.I bit high for my 19" Monitor.

How can I solve the problem with nvidia driver?

Thank you,
David

The question is how did you install it? I use the exact same video card in two media servers and neither has ever given me trouble.

Check this for the install howto:

zordrak thank you for reply.

The way I've installed my video card driver is this:
1)In Windows OS downloaded on my NTFS Windows partition from nvidia site: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us .

2)On root account took the path to driver
Code:
 driver cd /Windows/
3)Made file executable
Code:
 chmod +x NVIDIA*.run
4)started to install driver
Code:
./NVIDIA*.run
5)used command
Code:
modprobe nvidia
6)loaded desktop environment
Code:
startx
I didn't cut those lines with InputDevices like you said in that tutorial.
+ big surprise:today checked xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/ folder.File was EMPTY;I don't know why.
I reinstalled driver, cut those lines and work again.

I'd like to know why that file was empty.

Thank you for help!
David

Have you tried an earlier version of the nVidia driver e.g. 260.19.44?
I just tried the latest nVidia driver 270.41.06 and found that I could not get to my KDE desktop. Reverted back to 260.19.44 and all is OK.
This is Slackware 13.37 32 bit with an nVidia GeForce 7300 LE.

doesn't work!

Maybe this to do with my problem: Before installing Slackware i've tryed to install other Linux distros(Ubuntu,Sabayon and OpenSolaris). Booting from LiveCD was a problem.Everytime I was seleting "Try OS" or "Install OS".After selecting one of this options files were loading only 1 blinking cursor("_") was on monitor.

So my last option was to try Slackware. So here I am, trying to solve problems to get 1 linux distro.

Is there anyway to make vesa driver to run on 1440x900 resolution?
