I have edited /etc/inittab to enable X login using GDM. But it fails to bring up the login box and tells me that it failed to do that after several trials. And the system halts after that error message, not even showing me a login prompt. I need to login again to edit inittab but how can I do that?
for your reference, I edited only a number in inittab, that is the default run level from 3 to 4.
I found out the cause of the problem to be the read permission of my newly installed truetype fonts. They were set to be readable only to root. After I set them to be world-readable, I can start gdm without errors now. Thanks a lot for your help, Ifur
