I recently upgraded a bunch of gnome packages with the dropline installer, then reinstalled gnucash according to the tutorial at www.rjmarq.org/gnucash.html . Everything was working fine until some apps started misbehaving when trying to launch them, beginning with epiphany, which I installed to try it out. It never ran, and after it crashed and exited, no other apps would run. So I killed X, restarted it, and now begins this trouble. In runlevel 4, I can get to a login screen, log in, then X freezes when trying to load stuff, blank screen, no error messages in .xsession-errors. In runlevel 3, startx seems to start x--I get the gold link background with an X cursor, but it doesn't go farther. Again, no error messages. Any help?

Delete all X temporary files in /tmp. In fact, delete all the content of /tmp.

tried that, didn't work. same problem.
