X 4.4.0 keeps crashing with -current

Well, I'm running Slackware-current and it doesn't seem very stable on my machine.
If I'm in X and leave the machine for a while, I see that it crashes and I'm at the command prompt.

All I see in XFree86.0.log is that it caught a signal 11. There's not much other information. I've been keeping the machine up to date with swaret and this has just started happening recently.

Is there anyway to debug this easily and has anyone else been experiencing this with -current?

I tired to roll back to X4.3.0 but Gaim kept complaining about libXss.so.1 missing and gkrellm was complaining about libXinerama.so.1 missing.

Thanks.

Have you got apm/acpi or xscreensaver or something running which may be trying to start up after you leave it?

xscreensaver-4.15 is installed.

I can activate xscreensaver myself and everything seems ok.

This just started happening very recently, like withing the last week.

It's puzzling.

Is your 3D acceleration working properly??
If you do not have 3D set up and a 3D screensaver kicks in, X will crash.

I have a sis chip in my notebook. The 3d does not work properly and some 3d screensavers will crash X. Make sure you have a simple screensaver running to check this.

Else look for the dri 666 line in your XFree86 file in /etc/X11 and try commenting it out.

Well, I've confirmed the following xscreensavers are crashing my X:

AntSpotlight
Bubble3D
FlipScreen3D
GLEidescope
GLSlideShow

I used xscreensaver-demo to try every one that was installed.

Very bizarre that this wasn't happening prior to my upgrading to 4.4.0.

Guess I'll just be disabling those 5

And it's happening at work and home with slackware-current on completely different hardware....

Heh, I supposed I could. Never realy used anything other that the default drivers that come with X. The video card is an old Diamond Viper 770. Not even sure how I would go about upgrading the drivers. Then again it's just easier to not use xscreensaver. Now that I've figured the cause of the crashes, I'm not as concerned. Never had aproblem with 9.1 though, only -current.

The following xscreensaver-4.15 modules crash X on my system
since upgrading to xfree86-4.4.0:

AntSpotlight
Flipscreen3d
Flurry
GLEidescope
GLSlideshow

There does not seem to be a pattern. Some are GL, but all of
the other GL screensavers worked.

There is probably some sort of random incompatibility between
xscreensaver and xfree86-4.4.0, depending on your video driver.

I would not consider it a huge problem. There are plenty of working
screensavers left.

I was in the same pain. I downgraded to xfree 4.3.0 and for all missing library :

ex for libxinerama (do that as root):

cd /usr/X11R6/lib
ld --whole-archive -share -o libXinerama.so.1 libXinerama.a
ln -s libXinerama.so.1 libXinerama.so
cp libXinerama.so /lib/ (optional)
ldconfig
