www.slackware.com down?

Is slackware.com down? did I miss anything? Distrowatch says a rc1 is out, but there aren't to many topics (any) on a rc1 for sw13 to be found @LQ (yet). And a rc1 of Sw13,. isn't that just a nice way of saying the -current won't be changing alot until sw13 is released?

Anyways: slackware.com is down. anyone knows wot's wrong>

The server is down indeed and it will take some time for "hands" to fix that, with the 4th of July coming right up.
Just hang in there, and use alphageek's Slackware mirror page to find places where you can download the first release candidate for Slackware 13.0.

You must have missed the sticky at the top of the page !

Ah, thanx,. as I'm not into _64,... and I presume sw13 will be released as a 32 an 64 bit version 'at the same time' I didn't bother with the sticky..

If you don't know how to tell if your system is 64bit capable,... you probably won't be capable installing the 64bit version of anykind of OS. And as I'm among those who can't tell..

Your CPU is 64bit if you find the lm (for "long mode") flag in your cpuinfo. See my own computer as an example (the same box that compiled slackware64-current until it went public):

Code:

~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep flags
flags          : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt lm 3dnowext 3dnow up

It's up again :)

Yes but it's not actually fixed :)

There are some hardware issues so it would be nice if the load was kept to a minimum.

We are monitoring it and While we do appreciate the "heads-up" opening the box too many times might just make the cat disappear ;)

It's traditional to use a hamster wheel to power backup servers. While having a cat in there also, will, no doubt, motivate the hamster to run that little bit faster, you need to ensure continued separation to avoid a catastrophic failure.

I believe he may have been referring to Mister Schrödinger's box, not the server's.

slackware.com still down?

Looks like it is down again. It was up yesterday @ some time. Still not ping able

Hi,

As others have stated it may not be back solid/stable until Monday. There will be a need to make physical contact/maintenance.

Indeed, but I couldn't make a joke out of that. ;)

Has anyone connected to slackware.com yet? The Slackware site still seems to be down as of this writing.

lumak 07-06-2009 11:25 PM

it's a conspiracy! They are unveiling a new webpage for the ominous 13... nah probably just server problems.
