GOD I'm an idiot. This was the key: [fglrx:firegl_init_module] *ERROR* firegl_stub_register failed

Search for this error... answer...

Compile DRM as a module. I had it built into the kernel.

So kernel 2.6.27.8 is currently running with network and sound functional (which surprises me. I usually have to battle sound).

On top of this, I'm now running KDE 4.1 \0/

I just caught that as well. Good to hear you got it going. I like pats generic kernels as a starting point. I prefer modular kernels, some prefer to build things statically. To each his own.

If you haven't noticed 8.12 was released. I think I'll install 12.2 tonight and mess around with it.

I generally like to compile my own kernels because I think it's good practice, and I can get my kernels to boot a LOT faster than stock kernels
