wrong kernel version?

hello,

I've installed Slackware 9.0 and thought, the kernel 2.4.20 is current in this version.
but i have still running kernel 2.4.19-4GB, but the kernel modules
in /lib/modules are for the newer kernel.

to get started the system i've copied the modules from my SuSE 8.1 to /lib/modules/2.4.19-4GB (SuSE used the same kernel).
so I got the system running.

but my sound card doens't work.
aRts run, but there is no output and /dev/dsp can't be opened.

Enrico

you can't just copy modules from one kernel to another,
even for the same version. they just work with that
compiled version they came with.

it works, not really very well, but it works.

I wanna know, how I get the new (2.4.20) kernel runing, because I have for this kernel the original modules.

If your using Slackware, download the latest stable release from www.kernel.org and then compile the new kernel.

the kernel you are looking for is probably in the same
place as the modules you got. your cdrom?
