I was basically just wondering why the Slackware Gods have opted for MySQL over PostgreSQL. (or even better: Have both!)
iirc postgres was used in previous releases before it was replaced by mysql (ever heard of LAMP ?). [nope, didn't recall correct ]
i guess the primary reasons for not including both are size constraints (1dvd) and the easy availability of postgres. ultimately you'd have to ask pat, though

I have been packaging my own PostgreSQL for a while. My packages (postgresql and postgresql-contrib) weigh only 7.2 MB so I don't think the size is a reason not to include PostgreSQL in Slackware.
Update: I just checked the slackbuilds.org SlackBuild and I'm updating mine (will add enable-thread-safety; I normally use 26/26 and will leave it that way for the moment. My rc.d script actually does that dirty work of initializing the db, it's a modified version of a script I found at this forum -don't remember exactly where but it was here at LQ)
I mean, if you want a pgsql extension for PHP. I do recompile my PHP with PostgreSQL support and somewhat different flags (so it's not the only reason to recompile PHP) but I would still want to know about others' experiences with this combination (PHP+PostgreSQL).
