Won't print without being connected to internet?!?

My slackware 11 system, I just noticed, will hang on any printer function (printing, printer setup, CUPS administration) if I am not connected to the internet?!?

I can sit here are disconnect my cable modem and all printer functions hang. If I then reconnect my cable modem, the printer functions work fine.

Any ideas????

You may misconfigured network or cups daemon settings.
Cups is accessible through loopback so there is no need for outside connections for sure.

Are you able to ping localhost when disconnected from the Internet ?
How did you configured printers/cups ?

Ahhh! When I ping localhost disconnected I got nothing. Pinging 127.0.0.1 was ok. I remembered I messed with the /etc/hosts file a while back. I set the /etc/hosts file back to:

127.0.0.1 localhost

and now ping localhost works and CUPS seems to be working ok too.

Hey, ya know step 1) in my troubleshooting technique is "PANIC", step 2) is to come to this forum.

Thanks much!!
