Things have gone from bad to worse. I installed Slack-Current using an ISO. The installation went fine, BUT now the wireless network card isn't being detected by the system at all. I'm not sure what I forgot to do. My rc.wireless.conf is correct, BUT it appears that the pcmcia hasn't activated it. I see a line during bootup that says pcmcia is activated and detecting both sockets, but the wifi card remains off (no lights are on).

Need HELP!

BUMP!

I just don't understand why my system worked fine with Slack-Current. Then I screwd something up when I used Swaret to update my system (on reboot, it wouldn't go to init 3 or 4...it just froze). Then I tried reinstalling Slack.....and here I am.

Please help

Thanks!

Slackware is best upgraded using official Slackpacks from official Slackware mirrors and upgradepkg. That said,

You need to issue as root:
Code:
root@titus:/home/mingdao# lspci -v
02:04.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
Subsystem: Askey Computer Corp.: Unknown device 7064
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 168, IRQ 17
        Memory at d0010000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
to display detailed information about your chipset, and then
Code:
root@titus:/home/mingdao# lspci -n
02:04.0 Class 0200: 168c:0013 (rev 01)
to show the PCI vendor and device codes as numbers instead of looking them up in the PCI ID database.

Post those and we'll go from there...

Some resources for you to read in the meantime, which may be all you need once you have that information above:

Thank you for your help. What I don't understand is how with Slack 10.0 (which was continually upgraded to Current) getting my wireless card working was pretty simple. Now....all of a sudden....it's a pain in the a$$. All I had to do before was get the PCMCIA to detect the card and get the rc.wireless.conf setup and it was done. Why is it no longer working?

WEIRD!

IT'S ALIVE!!! My wireless connection works.

Ok...I believe my problem is fixed...however the reason for it working again does NOT make sense whatsoever. I have to use a memory map in order to use all 320MB. It wasn't until this evening that I configured lilo properly to memory map my system to detect all 320MB (it was only detecting 64MB). After I reconfigured lilo for all 320MB, my system booted up, my Linksys WPC11 was detected by PCMCIA THEN, it processed my rc.wireless.conf file and established my IP address.

How in the WORLD.....did that fix it??? WTF?
