Wireless Issues

I'm running Slack 11 on my Toshiba laptop with built-in IPW2200 wireless. I have updated my rc.wireless.conf, and it works perfectly at home. My problem is that I cannot connect at my work. If I run "iwlist eth1 scan", it shows 2 access points (my building has a bunch) with the same ESSID. It is running 128-bit WEP (same as what I have at home), and I have the key, but I don't receive an IP address when I run rc.inet1 like I do when I'm wired in or on wireless at home. I dual-boot with Windows XP, and that connects fine. Any ideas here?

The other thing that I haven't found is a way to support wireless profiles for multiple locations. I also don't know how to make it auto-connect to a new connection (if a wireless network is found or I clip in to the network after boot). Do I really need to run "rc.inet1 restart" every time I want to connect to a new network?

Thanks! ...Steve

I believe rc.inet1 calls dhcpcd when rc.inet1.conf sets USE_DHCP[]="yes". Could it be something with the 2 access points? Thanks! ...Steve

Try connecting to the mac address instead of ESSID.

Something like this:
Code:
# scan for APs, prompt for which one, connect to the chosen AP MAC
	wlanconfig eth1 list scan
echo 'Choose AP MAC => '
	read wifimac
	iwconfig eth1 ap $wifimac

I just tried identifying the mac address, with the same results. Any other ideas why this wouldn't connect? Should I be running in something other than "managed" mode?

As for my other questions, is there really nothing stock in Slackware that will detect a network and connect to it based on my settings?

Thanks again! ...Steve
