Question wireless drivers

Ok so first I will say I am pretty new to the Linux scene. I started out running Ubuntu 10.10 which was ok but reminded me way to much of windows. I wanted something that would help me become more command line savvy and thus far I have loved Slackware because it has forced me to learn. So now my issue...

I cannot get my intel wifi series 6000 adapter to work. I looked at downloading the drivers for it but after further investigation they already come with the kernel I am running. If I do an ifconfig i can see lo and eth0 but no wlan0 yet if I do an ifconfig wlan0 it recognizes that wlan0 is there. If i try ifconfig wlan0 up I get an unknown 132 error. I've tried all the simple things I can think of as that usually tends to be the problem in all of my other experiences so I'm starting to question if the driver is kind of buggy maybe? I attempted to download the driver from intel which is a .ucode file but I have no idea how to use it. I guess my real question is, is there something I need to do to associate the driver with the wifi card and if not how do I use to .ucode file to attempt to install/upgrade the driver?

Hello!

First, can you please verify is your driver really is there:

Code:
ls /lib/firmware
or
Code:
ls /lib/firmware (pipe) grep yourfirmware
(replace pipe with a vertical line on your keyboard (i dont know where it is on mine... iPad ZaggMate keyboard))

If you cant see your firmware, it means it is not installed. Copy or move your .ucode to /lib/firmware and retest.

Now, for the unknown error 132, you can google it: simply type Unknown error 132 and you will find a lot of information (since it is my first post on this site, I cant put a URL, sorry )

and read some posts. It seems something is blocking your driver...

Hope this helped!

PS: You can also join the Slackware IRC channel to chat with experienced users who probably encountered your problem one day, or at least, will know how to solve it.

The fix ended up being to download and run rfkill. I guess my wireless card and bluetooth were being hard blocked. Thank you for the help!
