Wireless connection keeps breaking

Hey guys,

OK so ever since I started using slack 12.1 my wireless connection keep breaking. I didn't really have this problem with 12.0. I have to constantly babysit my downloads and bittorrent because I keep getting disconnected and have to restart my card. I have a PCI atheros card in my laptop that I use and am using the regular madwifi drivers.
I was thinking about maybe upgrading to the new ath5k drivers to see if it makes a difference but I kind of want your guys input first to maybe help me diagnose the problem first.

Thanks again

Hi thanks but all I can get out of that thread is that using the ath5k drivers might not be a good idea. I compiled the regular madwifi drivers and they do work ok but my card just doesnt want to stay connected for extended periods of time to my router for some reason. I am having none of these issues otherwise with my wifi card under windows so its not any problem specific to my router or my card I dont believe.

Your error messages would be in '/var/log'. You could look at 'dmesg'. I suggest that you look at some good background information by looking at 'Linux Documentation Project' for specific information and 'Rute Tutorial & Exposition' to get some Linux background.

edit: You should look at 'SlackwareŽ Essentials' and 'SlackwareŽ Basics'.

These links and others can be found at 'Slackware-Links' . More than just SlackwareŽ links!
