wireless broadcom(airforce one) on laptop doesn't work
Hi, that's the first time I'm posting here . I'm from brasil and my english is not so good, so.. sorry for some mistakes.
I have a slack 12.0 in a laptop, and my wireless broadcom airforce one is not working! I modprobe the bcm53xx and when I use's ifconfig appears the eth0 as the wireless card, and iwconfig is showing as well. But, when I use's the iwlist eth0 scanning a message "doesn't support: no such device" appears. And when I use's iwconfig eth0 essid "" .... to try UP, it's doesn't work too...
So, my wireless card is ON on my laptop, I think (I dont have the light of the wireless card, it's a laptop), but I cant understand whats going wrong. I have also tryed to use the ndiswrapper, but I dont no why it doesn't work: the same problems appears.
so, now: I have the machine running with no ndiswrapper and the bcm53xx modprobed. Any one can help me? TNX!
Please don't bump a post after just one hour - LQ already has a built in feature to automagically bump posts with no replies to try and get some more exposure (so by replying to your own post, it will actually get less attention in the long term).
1) The bcm43xx driver requires firmware to work - this you must obtain for yourself, since it cannot be legally redistributed in a nice packaged form.
2) What laptop is this? Many laptops have an rfkill switch of some sort that must be toggled for the radio on the wireless card to actually work.
My laptop is a brasilian laptop. It's a Itautec. The switch key to ON/OFF the wireless is correctly ON. So, this firmware, what is it? A software to controle the wireless? I have only the driver of my wireless broadcom, and I modprobed it... Is only this I think, isn't it?
Are you using an external pcmcia card or is it internal?
is it internal
I tryed to UP with ndiswrapper now... I download the driver of windows , and installed in ndiswraper .. i put the driver bcm43xxx on the blacklist and now I modprobe ndiswrapper and no devices is up on ifconfig and iwconfig. check out . lspci

Guys, I uses ifconfig -a and only the loopback and eth1 appears.
I modprobe the ndiswrapper very fine, but the wlan0 or ethX of wireless card doesnt appears.
and about to up the wireless card with iwconfig, it doesnt work too, the ethX or wlan0 doenst exist! very strange.....
NEW's: when I modprobe de bcm43xx driver (with no ndiswrapper) and I ifconfig -a , the wireless card appears as eth0 , BUT , when I try to UP .. ifconfig eth0 up a error msg's appears
