Winex Error...

I have checked other WineX posts but foudn nothing, I get this error when running Winex off a CVS install script

wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger...
err:seh:start_debugger Couldn't start debugger ("programs/winedbg/winedbg -1879029616 60") (2)
Read the Wine Developers Guide on how to set up winedbg or another debugger
err:ntdll:MODULE_THREAD_WaitThreadModuleSafe this should never happen. (unless wine crashed)

would installing that debugger fix the problem.. thank you

No, it would not.

First of all, the debugger doesn't "fix" anything; it just gives extremely verbose errors to assist the developers in understanding what went wrong.

Second of all, something is going on with the debugger anyway... the "debug" option in Wine is deprecated (which means about to be removed completely)-- or so Wine keeps telling me every time I start it-- and the debug functionality has been integrated, or removed, or something I'm not clear on.

Does this occur with all programs you run with Wine, or just one? If just one, which one? Does the program display anything before crashing? Do you have any indication at all as to what might be failing?

Have you actually configured Wine?

I have only tryed it with SteamInstaller.exe (counter-strike) I figured it was an error over all..> I can give you the complete readout if you would like... and yes I have configured it to the sence that I ran cvswinex and from there configured it... went into config and edited it to my liking

I am at school now so I cant run it because of the display not going thru Putty... so I will post it later

To the best of my knowledge, Steam only works "perfectly" with the binary version of WineX 3.3-- at least that was the crown jewel announcement of the 3.3 binary release.

I presume that it would not work with the CVS or previous binaries (the CVS is not the source of the current binary release, as far as I can tell), otherwise they would not have made such a big deal about how they finally got it working in the current binary release.... especially since that's pretty much all they said was new in the current binary release.

So I'd consider subscribing in order to get the full binary, if it's that important to you. Not, of course, that we won't help you get what you've installed working; just that I wouldn't hold out much hope that we can get Steam in particular working under what you've installed.

I understand what you are saying but I have played CS under older versions of Winex... I had found a nice installscript which installed it for me and allowed me to play CS... so I know it is possible :-/... I will try another .exe and see what it says

Do you have any reason to believe that WineX would install or run iTunes? Why don't you just try something simple like ... notepad... so we can see if Wine(X) is working at all, before trying to straighten out complex problems in complex programs?

If you don't have Notepad available, you can get it from the Wine project page at Sourceforge; scroll down past the middle to the Win32 Packages section and get the wine-prgs-20040505.zip archive. Extract it somewhere and run wine notepad.exe. If even that does not run, we can suspect then that there is some problem with your WineX installation (such as nothing in fake_windows/system/ for example).
