Window manager (fluxbox) won't start when logging in

Hello all,

I'm running Slackware 9.1. The power went out in my house and my Linux box rebooted the other day. Now when I try to login (using gdm) I get this error:

"Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you are out of diskspace. Try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix it."

Taking a look at my .xession-errors file:

stderr is not a tty - where are you?
/etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: line 121: exec: fluxbox: not found

I've been using Fluxbox fine for the past several months. I get the same error when trying to load Gnome, KDE, etc.

I'm not sure what happened here. I haven't run out of diskspace.

Are you able to execute fluxbox from the command line?

Yes, I'm able to start Fluxbox fine form the command line when logged into a failsafe session. I'm executing /usr/local/bin/fluxbox

I have a .xsession file in my home dir to start fluxbox. I was under the impression that this overides the script in /etc/X11/gdm/XSession. Is that true?

do you have it in your ~.xinitrc?

.xinitrc is used from startx
gdm uses .xsession
