wifi connection issues with slackware 12.37 and broadcom wifi card

As i said i am runing the latest slackware and a broadcom wifi adapter and i cant get it to find connections let alone connect. I've gotten the wired internet to work and to my knowledge i already have all the drivers needed for the wireless, i dnt have a connection right now so no screen shots (sorry) im trying to be as descriptive as possible but im still new to this so im not sure what info would be valuable in this situation. Any help will be greatly apreciated, thanks in advance!

Please post the output of '/sbin/lspci' so that the model of Broadcom device can be found.

Also, I suggest that you use the Report button to have this moved to the Slackware forum. This issue has been handled many times before by people more experienced with Broadcom than me.

thanks for responding

Those commands return:

Network controller: Broadcom corporation bcm43224 802.11a/b/g/n ( rev 01 )

Im not sure how to move the post to the slackware section ( im using the lq app ) i have looked up quite a bit of information before i posted, but i wasnt even aware there was a dedicated slackware section.

You will likely need to install a firmware package for that device. It cannot be supplied in default Slackware due to licensing issues. This thread may help. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...luxbox-883233/

PS - I have reported this post with a request for movement to the Slackware forum.

Until someone with actual experience comes along you could:
1. Build and install b43-fwcutter - http://www.slackbuilds.org/repositor.../b43-fwcutter/
2. Build and install b43-firmware - http://www.slackbuilds.org/repositor.../b43-firmware/
To learn more about using SlackBuilds, look at the HOWTO page. http://www.slackbuilds.org/howto/

Have you read http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43?

There are slackbuilds like allend mentioned which should make the firmware extraction easier. You may need to update your kernel if it is older than v3.1.

apologies for the late post...

I know i've ran and used a slackbuild before but after the last few days of not being able to make it work i return. Can someone please point me in the direction of a link or video that explains in detail how and why they work? I've looked and all i can find are sites that give the information as if they were talking to someone who is fluent in Linux which i have found i clearly am not. Thanks for any help you can offer.

What kernel version are you using? If you are unsure what version you are using try:
Code:
uname -r
EDIT: Actually, is it driver issues or is it how to connect wirelessly you think you need help with?

OP says in post#1 that latest Slackware is being used, Slackware 13.37 if you forgive the typo in the title. So the kernel version is likely to be 2.6.37.6

Perhaps this walkthrough will help.

@turtleli - Why do you say a kernel version >3.1 is required?

See the supported devices section in http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43, the OP's wireless card is supported but needs at least kernel 3.1.
