Hi everyone,
I've recently installed Slackware on my laptop and I can't connect to the internet.
I have a Sony Vaio NW21 laptop, I have 2 rooters, i should connect to the first with wi-fi and the second is going out to the internet, it's IP is 192.168.0.1 .
In netconfig, I wrote peter to host name and peter.sony.hu for domain name. I've added a valid DNS server and 192.168.0.1 as default gateway. My wifi led isn't blinking, which is strange, so it can be a driver problem too.
Be sure the firmware for your device is in place. If the device is configured properly from a driver/firmware perspective then you can use; Configuring your network in Slackware is Alien_Bob's excellent article on the way network cards are configured in Slackware. + Loads of internal reference links + Ethernet & Wireless
You could use 'wicd' from '/extra' but be sure to have '/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf' either empty or restored to original state so there will be no conflicts.
Is the domain 'peter.sony.hu' valid? Does not seem to be registered.
show your wireless device, if not you have a driver problem, if so install wicd from extra as suggested. You may also need to know your wireless network domain name, type of encryption if any and the encryption key
it's need to be registered?
i don't know if i have a domain name but i had to write something
No, you did not need to enter a domain. You could default to empty. If your domain is not valid in the '/etc/resolv.conf' or DNS then you are searching and will have problems.
Just edit '/etc/resolv.conf' to comment via '#' out the line 'search peter.sony.hu' to '#search peter.sony.hu'.
BTW, you should read the messages that are presented during the install & netconfig.
