i've seen a few posts round the net that slackware 10.1 supports widescreen resolutions out the box WITHOUT having to mod the xorg.config file. is this true?
and if it is how did you get the dang thing to work... im trying to install slackware
on my lappy Inspiron 6000 .... also how do i figure my horizsync and vertrefresh? if its not documented?

Mine doesn't auto-configure itself (Inspiron 8600 w/ Wide). I generally have to manually set the sync settings. I'd be interested to see if this is true, though.

Yes it is true for my Dell Inspiron 6000

ATI x300 128Mbyte
1680x1050

After you install Slackware 10.2/10.1

Just issue command
Code:
xorgsetup
And it will configure with Driver "ati" for widescreen.

You need to comment out the illogical Vert and Horizontal freq settings from the monitor section. Don't have to insert any settings as replacement.

And you might want to change the mouse settings a little. Other then that, widescreen out of the box.
