bash-3.1# wicd-curses

As i said, i don't think the original install via pkgtool worked...
Your error shows you've installed a 64-bit wicd package. You told earlier that you "think" you have a 32-bit Slackware installed. Remove the wicd package and install the correct 32-bit version.
Hi again,
After i figured out how to get to the link I tried installing the txz file using pkgtool. Nothing appeared to happen? I tried running wicd from the command line and got back a message saying there wasnt a module called wicd. Any ideas? I think i'm running 32bit and that was a 64 wicd I think. Could that be it? Should i be using something that pkgtool to install it? or since i'm using fluxbox do i need to install something else as well?
If you don't have a Slackware DVD at hand you'll find it in the .extra directory of any mirror, or even simpler: "slackpkg install wicd". Make sure to pick one matching your distribution (32 bit, if you confirm that) and/or to have uncommented a good one as well in /etc/slackpkg/mirror
Many thanks, i found the right package I think.
I installed and ran 'wicd-curses' from the command line and got a cool little window showing some essid's in the area. Sadly mine wasn't there.
I tried "iwlist wlan0 scan", which came back with some essid's but again, not mine. I then tried adding my essid under the hidden network option in wicd. This worked for me when i was experimenting with WICD when i had slack12.2, but this didnt work either.
In the wicd readme it says something like:
Quote:
Results have varied, but you will probably need/want to remove
any references to interfaces from /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf - in
other words, make that file look as if netconfig has never been
run.
so i checked this and it looks like i haven't tampered with it.
Does anyone have any ideas please? These wireless problems are the only thing stopping me from using slackware all of the time
i tried as root.
my router is not hidden.
my router is definitely working - this laptop also has a ubuntu partition on it which finds my router and connects no problem. My gf's windows machine also connects to it. I haven't actively hidden my ESSID. I've checked my router settings to confirm this as well
I am now pretty much up to the same place I got trying to get wireless working under slack 12.2 as well. It's a crying shame because i'm loving slackware.
Back to ubuntu I guess....
ps thanks for everyone's help.
