It's probably a BIOS issue. I tried 2 different CD-ROMS (including the CD-RW drive I burned my Slack 11 CDs with on another PC) in my 1999-vintage eMachine and it just wouldn't boot. It also wouldn't boot on a 2002-vintage 850 MHz Pentium III.
But on the other hand, it booted and installed on two no-name 300 MHz Pentium II machines I had at work. Go figure.
Still no excuse. Any Slackware CD should boot on any Pentium box. Slack 10.2 and earlier did.
