Why KDE 4.4.3 doesn't work for me? :(
Hi slacklovers, war slackers and all good people,
I installed slackware 13.1 from original dvd-install image. Here is a list of the main sins of my KDE 4.4.3 Code:
1) during, in average, 1,5 h of work KDE becomes dummy for my keyboard and mouseIt seems that system is healthy. I tried to work with XFCE, it is OK. My suspects responsible are Dbus message system and HAL. By default the 'Allow Empty Input' Xserver flag is on exactly for using with HAL (as I undarstand). So HAL detects a keyboard and mouse. But what something be broken? HAL or communication system (dbus?). Xserver is unable to obtain events from input devices - input is empty. From the point of view of a user it looks like system hangs. But this somehow KDE related. So at this moment I abandon KDE and convert to XFCE (for a while). My hardware: MSI MS-7211 mortherboard with VIA v8237r chipset, Intel Pentium 4 prescott with HT, 1 G RAM, Nvidia FX5500 video card, SATA 110 GB hard disk, SONY DVD-RW on IDE, 8 GB hard disk on IDE, wifi mouse and keyboard connected via USB wifi adapter, the second PS/2 mouse connected to a external USB hub (I use PS/2 - USB adapter). |

i have been using KDE all these time and i have upgraded to Eric's KDE 4.4.4 packages and they are working just fine, even though this computer has been up for more than two weeks

After reinstalling and avoid to use the nvidia proprietary drive - I use
nv Xorg driver (no 3D acceleration ! no composite !) - KDE 4.4.x works stable - but I am still using it with caution. |
