Why ark in Slackware 13 doesn`t recognize .txz packages...

...and how to change it? I mean when I click on .txz package I would like to see what is inside.

I use Midnight Commander in xterm. It allows to inspect the contents of TXZ files.

I don't know if that's what you mean but you can try:
Code:

less package.txz
it seems to list the contents of the package

Sure, I can read them via commandline, but why sophisticated tools as dolphin and ark cannot? Shouldn`t .txz format be added by default to Slack`s KDE4 as it is its package format? TGZ woks fine so should TXZ, I think.

Take a look at the /usr/doc/xz-4.999.8beta/README file. The LZMA compression format was adopted from the 7-Zip project and is still a beta package. Just speculation but the folks at KDE are probably waiting before they update their utilities to support the format.

it has been implemented in KDE 4.3 (http://kde.org/announcements/4.3/)

Quote:

Ark, a file compression and decompression application now supports LZMA/XZ, has improved support for zip, rar and 7zip and works better with drag'n'drop.

Another reason to look forward to an upgrade to KDE 4.3!
