I'm running slack 9.1 on a pentium 233 mmx with 96MB of ram, so for that one slack 8.1, 9.1 or 10.0 will go shoothly.

Of course it will depend a bit of your X windows manager choice...

Yah, Linux can and will breath new life into old hardware.

One of my biggest annoyances with Windows is it's multitasking. . .. so bad. Linux is much more advanced in that department.

My 200 Mhz machine runs Vector

Just to add my ha'ppenys worth...

My oldest machine, which has a 200 Mhz AMD K-6 processor, 64 Mb of SDRAM and a 10 Gb disk runs Vector Linux which is based on Slackware but is optimised for use on lightweight/old hardware - hence most of the apps are chosen for their low resource use.

And whilst it's no speed demon it does actualy work o.k. - although in fairness I don't use it for much just for the odd spot of web browsing, accessing my mail server via IMAP, playing a few tunes or listening to internet radio etc.

And previous to this I was using Slackware 9.0 on it but I decided to install Vector just to see what it was like (the answer to which is very nice indeed !)
