You should specify the model of USB 3G modem you intend to use and the network provider. Many work with the "option" kernel module which should be present in vanilla Slackware kernels and loaded automatically when plugging in the device. You'd only need to configure the dialing program with the appropriate parameters, be it bare pppd, kppp, wvdial (no official package) or others. There should be sample configurations if you perform a web search with the names of the program and the provider.

Hi, i'm from singapore and my network provider is Singtel. The model of the model is HuaWei E169.

Does this model able to work with the "option" kernel module which should be present in vanilla Slackware kernels?

I'm trying to test out this device before i sign up for the service. Thanks

I'm using the Huawei E170 successfully in Slackware 12.1 with kernel 2.6.27.4 and the option driver. If I remember correctly the only difference to the E169 is HSUPA support, so I think it should also work fine.

HSUPA = High-Speed Uplink Packet Access, ie highspeed upload

After a search on Google for "e169 singtel pppd", it seems (from the first result) that the modem is indeed supported by the option kernel module, so you'd only need to configure it as the more popular E220 with the username and password dummy/dummy and the Internet APN being "internet". ppr:kut mentioned an application above that is specialised in setting up this type of connections.
