Which files are connected to the keymap?

Hello,
As a user of a Slack-based Distro (VectorLinux) , AND having a non-US keyboard , I'm getting (more than) a bit frustrated about keymapping in Linux.
Yes : I know , how to set the keymap in console and in X , but that always has to be done manually ; Install script allways screw up.

Now , I'm not the type to "suck it up" and leave it at that and want to fix this issue , so the keymap will be set for both console AND X in "one go".
For that , I figured , I need to know where to find/locate ALL the files that in any remote way deal with the keymap and iso/utf-encodings.

Now my question(s):
-Can anyone provide me with a complete list of aforementioned files from a basic Slack-system?
-Can anyone tell me ,if there's some means to extract such a list from my installation?

Any help would be appreciated.

I speak Spanish, so I set all my system to use it and to match my spanish keyboard.
To change most apps to use your language as defualt (if they have the translation) you've to set the LANG variable in /etc/profile.d/lang.csh and /etc/profile.d/lang.sh.
Mine is for lang.csh:
Code:
setenv LANG es_AR
and
Code:
export LANG=es_AR
for lang.sh

To change the console keymap, you've to edit the file /etc/rc.d/rc.keymap (inside the file it tells you where to find all the available keymaps).
Code:
/usr/bin/loadkeys es.map
will load my keyboard keymap.

And finally to change it in X, you'll have to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, find your keyboard InputDevice section and add a line like this if it doesn't have it (modify it if it's).
Code:
Option "XkbLayout" "es"
Hope that helps.

In addition, you can set these variables to your language :

for lang.sh :
LANGUAGE=nl
LC_MESSAGES=nl
LC_ALL=nl_NL
LESSCHARSET=latin1
export LANGUAGE LC_MESSAGES LC_ALL LESSCHARSET

for lang.csh:
setenv LANGUAGE nl
setenv LC_ALL nl_NL
setenv LC_MESSAGES nl
setenv LESSCHARSET latin1

Your replies are much appreciated , but not what I asked for : I already know , how to set my keymap properly.
What I want , is a list of the involved files , so I can scrutinise them and work up a way to automate the process for both cli and X.
As it is now , it still needs to be set manually for the latter. Not what I'd call "elegantly"...

Sure ; I could just write a script for it , but I want to be sure , I don't overlook some obscure bit of data , that could barf up the whole thing somewhere.
