Where to get latest packages from

Hello all,

I'm sending a copy of Slackware 10 to a friend of mine who is on a modem and can not download it. But i also want to send him a cd with as much of the latest current packages he will have to install after a fresh install of Slack 10.. Do you know where or an easy way i can get them from?

Thanks

Hi,

These are just 2 that came to mind:

http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=slackware
http://www.linuxpackages.net/

You (your friend) should also take a look at swaret.
http://swaret.sourceforge.net/index.php

swaret is an updating tool for the Slackware distribution.

Hope this helps.

Thanks druuna.

I think you misunderstood. He's on a modem and its a bit difficault to download all the packages from swaret. If i had the ability, i'd just downlad and install them myself, then burn the /var/swaret folder with all the needed packages inside, but my system is already up to date and i frequently delete that folder.

I'm looking for a way to have all the latest updates one would need to install after a fresh installation of Slack 10, to put on CD for him.

A modem and swaret (especially the first time use) is not a good combination.....

The other two links I gave should give you what you want. Especially the first one, it shows the 'default' slackware packages for a specific version and the current version of the software.

You could also write a little script that uses wget/ftp/scp and one of the latest filelist for the current slackware packages.

ftp://dl.xs4all.nl/pub/mirror/slackw...t/FILELIST.TXT

This is also something your friend should not do using a modem

Hope this helps.

Well that's what i'm trying to do on his behalf, and stick it on a CD for him =)

I wonder if the quickest and easiest thing to do is just download the slackware-current folder from ftp, and just stick that on a CD for the updates... or not...
