Where is my bashrc hidden?


Well I know I edited it to change up the PS1 thing. Now I have some new aliases I would like to add but I cant find the bashrc file. I tried slocating it and to no avail it was not found? Anyone got any ideas?

It's usually in your home dir, as ".bashrc". The leading period means the file is normally hidden. You can see it with "ls -a", which is list all.

If its not there just make the file, and put your alias in there.

I forgot to mention I already know that. If it were that simple I wouldn't have asked. I've looked around my hdd and I can't seem to find it. Anyways if anyone knows that would be cool ;D

EDIT: ok I'll give that a try (the adding a bashrc to my home dir). ty all

Well adding the bashrc to my home dir didn't work. Also just to make sure everyone knows I know that my home directory is /home/user_name/ and I know that the bshrc file is supposed to be there. But aparently even if I add one there I can't use it. I've edited the bashrc file somewhere.............Don't remember and would like to know if anyone has any other suggestions....Well if you have any please post.

ADD IN: it is also not in my root home dir (/root)

EDIT: Found my problem. I remembered I created a .sh file instead of using .bashrc. Well that's the end of the case of the messed up .bashrc file and I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddiling(sp?) kids and ur little dog too!
