Where are the system logs?

Hey all,

I have been using slack for about 1 1/2 weeks now and I have been wondering where the system logs are. There is a system log in my menu but when I click on it, nothing happens. I have also looked around with no luck. So if anybody could tell me, that would be great.

They are mainly in /var/log
- messages
- syslog
- secure
...

Yes, almost everything of a temporary nature (log fiels, email, etc.) will be in var.

Thank you very much. I wouldn't have even thought to look there. I am still trying to figure out the structure of linux. Like /boot is where the boot files go and that sort of stuff.
